Smoked Landscape

from $65.00

Gritty, industrial, and deeply atmospheric, "Smoked Landscape" juxtaposes the raw power of human engineering with the indifferent beauty of nature. The composition features a vintage Amtrak train cutting through a mountain pass, alongside two weary, cigarette-smoking workers. A smaller, inset silhouette of a laborer grounds the piece, while the backdrop reveals a stark, snow-capped mountain range and a deep river canyon. It is a textured, complex meditation on labor, travel, and the carving of the American landscape.

About the Collection:

Created during the height of the COVID-19 lockdowns, this collection represents a deeply personal return to art. Confined to a small downtown apartment, I began cutting up vintage magazines and historical books as a way to escape. These pieces are fractured, yearning windows into the rugged expanses of the American West—an attempt to commune with nature and ease a worried mind when the real world felt entirely out of reach.
